Qualities Of A Diving Instructor
A diving instructor should be:
A good communicator: "Take this book and read it!"
Enthusiastic: "The Novices did a 40m (132ft) wreck on their second dive."
Sympathetic: "It's ok that you failed all the assessments, we'll do that 35m wreck anyway."
Up to date: "If you're good I'll let you use the new kit we just got: a brand new twin-hose and ABLJ!"
Open minded: "...so you should tow an SMB while cave diving?!?!"
Understanding: "You will NOT miss this week's pool session because of a cold!!!"
Patient: "COME ON, it shouldn't take you more than two minutes to master buoyancy control!!!"
Perceptive: "Did we remember to check our air in that buddy check this morning?"
Flexible: "If the porthole won't come off with the screwdriver, we'll use the crowbar."
Tactful: "By the way, Novices, the Dive Leaders want some more kit, so your air fills have risen to $35!"
Encouraging: "Oh go on: 45m (149ft) isn't that deep for a Novice I."
Resourceful: "There are 14 different ways to get a porthole off."
Cool-headed: "Ah, I'm trapped inside this cave... ...what would James Bond do?"
Knowledgable: "The City of Rome was founded in 753B.C."
