Andrew Pugsley
Having started scuba diving at the age of 12, Andrew took his first proper underwater photographs at the age of 14 with a Nikonos V. Previously he had only used point-and-shoot and disposable underwater cameras. That's not to say that such cameras are not valid tools: in 2002 AJ was awarded the first European Our World Underwater Scholarship Society photography prize, presented at the Festival Mondial de l'Image Sous-Marine at Antibes, France. The photograph was a head shot of a great white shark taken with a point-and-shoot Bonica Snapper. Andrew's favourite subjects to photograph underwater are sharks and wrecks. He has had underwater photographs published on the Thomas Cook website, in Dive magazine, in Underwater Photography Magazine, and as small posters for promotional material. Andrew also has an interest in historical diving, especially working equipment. He is a member of the Historical Diving Society, and has dived in Standard Dress in the London Aquarium (organised by Peter Wingett and Steve Warren). Steve and Andrew now regularly exhibit cameras and diving equipment on the Historical Diving Society stand at the London and Birmingham dive shows. Recently, Andrew has been in charge of the construction of the website for London's new dive store: Mavericks Diving Ltd. - www.mavericksdiving.co.uk See also: Andrew on the Mavericks website.
