Aquarium Shots: Piranha
Red-belly piranha, Serrasalmus nattereri. Normally distributed in
northern South America, the adults average a length of 15-20cm (6-8in). In the
aquarium, piranha are easily startled and are sensitive to water quality. They
are magnificent fish; although they spend much of their time not moving, they
have the ability to swim with incredible speed.
